Getting Started
A boutonniere should be worn on the left lapel of your jacket. Many suits still include a button hole on the left lapel just for this purpose, although modern styles will sometimes do away with that tradition (Boutonniere comes from the French for “buttonhole”). Position the flower on or just below the broadest part of the lapel.
Pinning the Flower
Flip the lapel back while holding the flower in place and slide the pin from the back of the lapel through the flower’s stem and back through so that each end of the pin is hidden. Do this in a way that has you pushing the needle point away from your date’s chest.
What to Look For
The boutonniere should be and rest at the same angle as the lapel, and be centered between its edges. Make sure the flower hasn’t rotated during the pinning process, and ensure the broadest portion of the flower is facing out.
